Le rhume du Père Noël

Yesterday, Maëva earned a lily flower card at school for her recitation of a Christmas poem they learned. Here she is reciting it this morning:

Le rhume du Père Noël
Le Père Noël est enrhumé
Je l'ai entendu éternuer
Préparons de la tisane
Pour lui et son petit âne
Malgré la neige, malgré le vent
Il descend pour nous petits enfants
A vos souhaits Père Noël
Voulez-vous un peu de miel?
by Maurice Carême

Tanya's translation:
Santa Claus's Cold
Santa Claus has a cold
I heard him sneeze
Let's make herbal tea
For him and his little donkey
Despite the snow and wind
He comes to see us children
Bless you, Santa Claus
Would you like a little honey?

Bravo! Puts my French poetry recitation in high school to shame. Native speakers shine through, even at age four.

Don't feel bad. We're not even in the same league. Her French pronunciation is better than mine and I've been living here for sixteen years!

Oh my.... So THAT'S what it's supposed to sound like!

Merci, Maeva!
