David

David was rushed to the hospital Wednesday night with severe abdominal pain. He is hospitalized in intensive care with acute pancreatitis. Apparently, it's very painful. Please keep him in your thoughts.

Update. Friday evening.
David is not doing well. Sylvain went with Marie-Elisabeth to the hospital this evening. David is still in the ICU, on morphine for the pain. His kidneys are failing and he's been put on dialysis. Prayers needed.

Update. Saturday afternoon.
Night nurse reported at the end of her shift at 6am that David had remained stable overnight. Sylvain and Marie-Elisabeth have gone back to the hospital. Visiting hours start at 1pm.

Update. Saturday 3pm.
Sylvain just called. The news is bad. David's other organs are starting to be affected as well.

Update. Saturday evening.
Maryelle, Vincent and Clément were with Marie-Elisabeth and Sylvain at the hospital. David's condition continues to deteriorate. He has been put in a medically induced coma.
He is probably dying.
We are heartbroken.
Sylvain was able to exchange a few words with him yesterday afternoon.
David has the worst stage of pancreatitis. The toxic enzymes secreted by the pancreas are attacking all of his organs. Apparently, the secretions usually peak at about one week, so if David can hang on for three to four more days, he might have a chance. However, with his condition deteriorating on a daily basis and organs such as his heart already being affected, any hope is very small indeed. Prayers needed.

Update. Sunday afternoon.
David's temperature dropped slightly so they suspected an infection. Tests couldn't find anything, but they are treating him with antibiotics anyway. He is currently "stable in serious condition," still in a coma. Apparently, he could remain like that for up to 7 to 10 days. No way to know if his condition will deteriorate or improve.

Update. Monday afternoon.
The doctor said he was not optimistic.

Update. Monday evening.
David's organs have undergone too much damage. The doctor predicts the end is near. During the night or in the morning. He sent Sylvain and Marie-Elisabeth home and said he would call when it was time.

Update. Tuesday morning.
No call during the night. Sylvain and Marie-Elisabeth have gone back to the hospital to be with David.
