Sylvain drove us to the Gare Saint Charles. Our TGV left at 9:46 am. Six hours to kill. Maëva read 3+ books. Laureva and I played Uno Flip and Seven Families. Laureva did her scratch card book. The girls watched Miraculous videos and played tablet. I read Brick Lane. Trying to get it finished because I have to start teaching it soon! We had a picnic lunch. Six fun-filled hours!!
Mary met us on our arrival in Strasbourg. We walked to her apartment in La Petite France. I recognized a few sites from our Christmas market trip with Roy and co. in 2011: a bridge and a pasta restaurant. After dropping off our things and meeting the kitties, we went out to see the town and run some errands.
First stop, What The Cake for a treat and hot chocolate. When we left, there were a few big, slushy flakes falling, but to the girls' chagrin, they'd stopped when we came out of the Galleries Lafayette twenty minutes later with five new pairs of thin socks for me. Three more stops at Sephora for eye liner, and the grocery store and the pasta shop for pizza dinner ingredients. Then back home to start our chips, pizza and game night. We made our own pizzas. Mary's boyfriend, Ben, arrived after his shift at the hospital (he's a nurse anaesthetist), just in time for pizza. Then Mary introduced us to a fun new card game involving memory and strategy (spying, peaking and swapping). The girls went to bed about 10:30 pm. The adults stayed up to savor a bottle of Super Papa Strasbourg stout that Laureva had picked out for us at the grocery store. Quite tasty!
