This afternoon, Julie and I left work and went to mom's retirement party at the City of Norman. There were a lot of co-workers, and I think there were even some now-retired, previous co-workers who came back. There were also a variety of people from the development community who came to thank mom for her help over the years.
Tanya and Roy called in to a zoom call. There were some audio issues, but it was good to have them there. A group of co-workers were dressed as the golden girls. Tanya serenaded us all with a rendition of the theme song to the show, which was well received. Roy didn't feel inspired to do anything similar.
People brought back baby quilts that mom has made over the years. Mom gave us one for one of Julie's employees who is pregnant, and she also gave one to a co-worker who is expecting his first girl (after 3 boys). She also got a couple more requests!
It was clear that mom made a lot of friends and her work was much appreciated in her 17.5 years at the City. She will be missed, but people are excited for her to enjoy the next phase of life.

Congratulations again, Mom! And drive safely today. It was fun to get to see some of the party from the Zoom call. Evan, you forgot to include your burrito roll dance in your report.
I am late to the party but it was really great to see this post. So glad the diligence, taking responsibility, and caring for coworkers over the years were all appreciated -- sounds like a great party to mark a big change.
