Working on the Walkway

I am now equiped with a farmer's tan, a red neck, and noticeably whiter hands than arms (due to wearing gloves). Jenn has a couple red patches, where she forgot to put sunscreen or didn't put enough on or didn't put it on soon enough. We decided our flagstone walkway needed a border. After investigating options, we went with landscape timbers over metal ... goes with the theme, has a little more substance, and is cheaper ... not to mention that I am now very experienced working with landscape timbers. I got the festivities going on Thursday, but we kicked it into high gear today. We started working at 9:30, took a quick break for lunch and finally finished up, just a few boards short of done, at 5:30 ... partially because we came up one piece of rebar short. Also included in the tasks was taking the gate off the hinges and trimming the bottom with the circular saw so that it works with the reworked walkway ... we're raising up the walkway so that it isn't covered in water after it rains. Tomorrow, after a stop at home depot in the morning, we should be able to finish up in half an hour.

Then, it's on to the task of regrading the entire walkway, which will include picking up a lot of the flagstone and putting more sand underneath. We're also going to cement it down ... but I doubt that will happen tomorrow. Tomorrow is looking like a, mostly, recovery day. More pictures of the progress may appear on the blog in the near future, but we'll see.
