OU finished the non-conference slate undefeated. They started conference play today, hosting the Cyclones from Iowa State. Lucas was super excited to be back at Sooner basketball after the layoff, but I warned him that OU might not win this one. I think ISU was ranked 11th or thereabouts heading into the contest, while the Sooners were #3.
OU started off pretty well, then they hit a rough patch and ISU surged ahead. ISU maintained a 5 to 10 point lead for the majority of the rest of the first half, though OU cut it to 4 at half. Lucas did not approve of this listing stuff. At one point, he claimed he was going to cheer for the red team (the cyclones, as the sooners wear white at home). However, that didn't actually happen.
The second half was fun. Both teams played pretty well, but OU just couldn't get over the hump. They'd cut it to 2, then the Cyclones would twist away. Finally, with less than 6 minutes left, OU took the lead. The LNC was rocking! It was pretty loud, but Lucas wasn't flustered. OU never pulled away, but they held a lead for the last 3 or 4 minutes and win by 4, 87-83.
Next up: at #2 Kansas (in Lawrence, KS) on Monday. Oiy.
