The halfway point

Last Wednesday we had our first visit with the new team of obstetricians. The baby's heartbeat was fine. They measured Nicole's blood pressure quite high, though—138/100—and because of a history of preeclampsia in her family, decided to send her down to the hospital for observation.

By the time we got there and hooked up to the monitor, though, her reading was back in the normal range, and it eventually settled down to something like 98/51 after a couple hours. Seeing no reason to be further alarmed, they sent us on our way. No great inconvenience. For one thing, we got to visit the part of the hospital where we will be headed when the big day arrives. Besides that, Nicole got to take a nap, and I had quiet time to finish reading Water for Elephants.

We had another visit with the OB yesterday, and the blood pressure reading was again normal. Nicole thinks that school might be elevating it a little bit.

At the right you see a picture that we took to fulfill Mary's request that she get monthly photo documentation of the pregnancy, since she won't be able to visit again before the birth. I'll continue posting photos as long as I can get Nicole's approval.

We have another sonogram scheduled for Monday the 28th. Maybe there will be pictures of that, too. We still haven't decided whether to avoid being apprised of the sex of the baby. We'll let you know how that goes, as well, of course. Stay tuned.
