If I remember correctly, the author of the book Meredith got me for Christmas wasn't a huge fan of the Lonely Planet series, although I'm not sure I remember correctly. I do remember him mentioning it (and reading some of them in his early years .... I think). Perhaps, I think things like this have something to do with it.
