Giving In

Andrew is becoming more mobile. I'm not sure if he's intentionally trying to go where he's not supposed to go, or if it's just coincidence that where he's not supposed to go is where he wants to go. But, either way, he was constantly trying to go play by the dog food which was up against the brick hearth in front of the fire place. We didn't want him over there because of the brick hearth and because we didn't want him playing with the dog food.

The dog food is no longer in front of the brick hearth. Today, we decided "Enough is enough!" It seemed like Andrew wanted to play at the hearth because it was at a good height to play while standing up. So, we moved the dog crate back to the dining room (in the corner with the windows) and put the dog food in the dining room against the wall that the refrigerator backs up to. This drastically reduces the distance from the sink to the dog water dish, which is an added plus. Now, the living room looks a lot larger. However, we have 10+ linear feet of sharp brick edge to Andrew to bang his head against.

So, we ventured out to Lowe's this evening to see what we could find. We found a Kid Kushion product to cover sharp edges. Unfortunately, the Norman Lowe's was out of the corner pieces. So, we went up to the Moore store. The Moore store had a slightly better selection, so we were able to get the corner pieces (package of 4, but we only need one - I possibly could have cut the pieces for the straight sections at a 45 and slid two together at the corner, but it wouldn't have been as nice a final product).

Andrew fell asleep in the car, so we were able to get the protective edging installed and he hasn't had an opportunity to try out his new play space. But, I'm sure he'll be over there banging things around when he gets home from day care tomorrow evening!
