I decided to try making shredded beef, so I found a recipe for spicy shredded beef on allrecipes.com ... but it didn't appear to be very spicy, so I modified it, significantly.
I trimmed the major chunks of fat off 2.5 lbs of beef chuck steak and then cubed it into approximately 1 inch pieces. I browned the beef in a small amount of oil for about 10 minutes, then added the following spices and cooked it for about 10 more minutes:
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp chili powder
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1 tsp chipotle pepper sauce
1 tsp salt
Then, I added 30 oz of tomato sauce and simmered it for almost 2 hours. I think this was too much tomato sauce, and we didn't end up eating all of it. I think 15 oz would have been plenty.
After it was done, I shredded it and we refrigerated it and ate it a few hours later (after it was reheated) with Tessa and Jeremy - in tacos with potatoes.

It wasn't overly spicy, everyone seemed to like it. Mom wouldn't have eaten a full serving.
I made it again. By accident, we found out that it is delicious on tortilla chips. There was a little meat left over, so I decided to scoop some up on a tortilla chip. Then, others joined in. Amazing!
