Laps

We went for a walk this evening (Jenn, me, Lucas and the dogs) while Andrew was playing with g'ma. I took my Garmin GPS watch thing along. First lap measured in at 1.03 miles ... second lap 1.02 miles. I did less meandering back and forth across the street on the second lap. Either way, pretty accurate. Those values match nicely with my estimates using GoogleEarth. It'll be nice to have a slightly larger loop ... won't have to go around as many times.

With all the cul-de-sacs, the walk total is 1.83 miles.

Evan, is your house near the "Oknoname Reservoir" that appears on Google maps east of Sooner road at approx 142 st?

Yes, Oknoname 02727 Reservoir.

Lat 35.325343 degrees
Long -97.421220 degrees
(approximately)

The elevation of our house is approximately 1246 ft, whereas the area around the reservoir is 1212 ft. So, there is a fair bit of relief, which is why our view is decent out the back (to the east).

If you pull up GoogleEarth (or GoogleMaps), you can see a line in the earth at 35.325491 (latitude). That line separates the lots that face the road on the N side of the neighborhood and ones that face the cul-de-sac west of the reservoir. The N edge of our lot is approximately in-line with that line. There is also a N-S line that shows the E extent of the lots that face Almond Valley Drive (the road on the west side of the neighborhood). Our lot is just shy of 130 ft wide, so that should give you enough information to get a pretty good idea of where we're at!!!

Is anyone out there doing anything interesting? If not, why not? If so, why aren't you blogging about it?
