In the series "I'm a big girl now":
Maëva likes to eat her morning white cheese (petite suisse) "all by herself" with two spoons.
At least, she starts out that way. But eating with two spoons is hard work (she holds the handle by the very end, pokes the spoon into the cheese, then lifts it up to her mouth upside down - luckily petite suisse is very sticky and doesn't drop off!), so she shifts to fingers when she's had enough of the spoons!

That's pretty much how kids learn to do it themselves. Do I need to find some pictures of when you were learning?
