Oakland Update

Hmmmm...what's going on here? Scattered showers, scattered brain...your reporter is busy trying to get her head straight after submerging in the end of semester tsunami-o'-stuff-to-do. So far, the storms have not caused us any problems...I delayed my Davis trip last Thursday until midday due to the dire predictions of high winds. SFAI's main campus lost power, and I guess there were a lot of trees down around the city, but for our house and the drive I eventually made, it was just rain. Substantial rain, but just rain and not really a problem for driving, at least in the Acura. Anwyl remarked that he really likes the brakes in that car and I agreed with him that they made me feel safer.

In October/November we had two events that took some emotional processing -- my sister-in-law Melva (married to Anwyl's younger brother Stuart) died of cancer and the long-time partner of Mark Holzinger, a guitarist that Anwyl played with for a decade, died just a month after being diagnosed with bone cancer. We went to a benefit for Mark and Suzie last night, many local musicians came out for ten hours of music (we only attended the evening bit.) I must say, I preferred the waves of weddings and children that attended earlier phases of life.

In other news, I turned in my grades Friday after a mostly enjoyable semester of teaching -- "Transmitting Art Practices," a class for artists who want to teach, was particularly good this time, a very inspiring group. Now I need to focus on getting my studio moved. I haven't found a new one, but I have gotten a big storage space in a different building at my current complex, and I can move the hard-to-manage stuff in there and stay in my studio until I actually get an eviction notice. They have been talking about tearing the building down since 1987, so I think I will hang out until the bitter end. There is a plethora of little stuff to manage at home -- serious organizing and cleaning needs to happen, the washer is on the fritz, etc., all the things that were put aside over the past few months for that magical moment when "there is more time." You would think by this age I would know that isn't going to happen...

I have been quiet on the blog but you are all a continual source of inspiration.

It seems life is always busy. It is just less crazy busy and ridiculously busy intermittently.

Yeah, that about covers it! I did get a start on the mountains of organizing today by... straightening up my sock drawer! We hope that the feeling of accomplishment generated by doing something easy will lead to bigger things...

Little bites are much easier to chew.

I think the box we put together should be there sometime this week.
