Maëva's 4th Birthday!

Sylvain and I were invited to a dinner party Thursday evening, so Estelle came to babysit. We got back late, so she stayed the night and spent all day Friday with us for Maëva's birthday. Friday started early. Maëva woke up before 7. Before going to bed, Estelle and I had set out her presents in the playroom. Everyone got up for an early morning present opening session. Maëva was happy to get the roller blades she's been wanting for three months. She got all geared up in her pads and helmet and went out to the patio to try them out. Then it was Minnie Mouse pancakes with chocolate sauce for breakfast, followed by a cooking session to make the pink strawberry birthday cake and a four-bean salad for the evening birthday barbecue. We even had time to decorate the veranda with Maëva's own homemade decorations (a paper chain with links she colored herself, and a sign saying "MAEVA 4"). We went out to lunch at "La Suite" in La Bouilladisse. Maëva decided she wanted to go back to the restaurant we went to for Laureva's and Marie-Elisabeth's birthdays in June. She had hamburger, French fries and chocolate cake with vanilla sauce. Yum! Estelle helped me frost the cake and put the finishing touches on party prep while the girls napped. Soon it was 4pm and party time! Candles, cake, champagne, presents, pool, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, trampoline, apéritif, music, barbecue, light sticks. Maëva told me several times how much fun she was having at her "surprise birthday party" (even though it wasn't a surprise)! She stayed up late hanging out with all the other kids (there must have been a good dozen) and finally went to bed around 11pm, I think.

If there were a good dozen, how many bad were there?

Maeva's present from Grandpa Galen and Grandma Pam is on the way, but will be very late. I'm expecting she'll still be 4 when it arrives!

Sounds like a wonderful party! So glad you all had a good time.

As usual, the girls were mostly good and the boys were frequently destructive. Why do boys have to break things? Whenever we have a party, something always gets destroyed by boys being too rowdy. This time, it was the inflatable dragon for the pool. Laureva's rocking alligator might also have bitten the dust if Marie-Elisabeth hadn't rescued it from being violently jumped on.

Just don't allow boys. Problem solved.
