Bad Joke

Monday, I reminded Maëva that she was getting her braces on after school the next day. She thought it was an April Fool's joke. She insists I told her it wasn't happening until July, though I'm quite certain there's no way I could have said that as it was never envisaged. She asked to see the entry in my calendar. I showed her. Then she argued that I had just gone to great lengths to make my farce believable. Ultimately, the joke was on her, though that really hadn't been my intention.

So she got the braces on her top row of teeth Tuesday afternoon. I hadn't realized the bottom ones would go on at a later date. They didn't hurt her too much Tuesday. However, she started complaining of pain Wednesday morning and it's continued since. She is upset that it hurts to chew some of her favorite foods. We're hoping this painful part won't last too long. Rachel, do you have any advice?

On the upside, she's looking forward to getting blue rubberbands at her next appointment in May.
