Merry Sickness

Christmas Eve started out well. I did some grading and sourdough cinnamon rolls prep in the morning. After lunch, the girls and I went to Aubagne to see Zootopia 2 at Le Pagnol (though no VO available anywhere around so we had to see it in French). Then in the evening, Sylvain joined us for bingo at the Cercle.

In the final round, Jimmy and I were both the same one number - 79 - away from winning the PS5, but somebody else got their number drawn first:

Afterwards, we had a nice meal with Marie-Elisabeth. We came home about 11ish. Maëva got milk, cookies, carrots and a note ready for Santa, then the girls and Sylvain headed to bed (Sylvain was tired after a morning trail run, he's training for a 41k trail run in March) while I stayed up to work on cinnamon rolls, tidy the upstairs and play Santa. After those tasks, I had a glass of eggnog and read a few pages of a cozy mystery before finally turning in sometime after 1am.

I hadn't been down long when I heard Laureva get up to vomit in the downstairs bathroom. She went back to bed, but was still feeling nauseous and didn't want me to leave, so I got a blanket and laid down on the floor in her room. She kept throwing up regularly, every twenty to thirty minutes or so. About an hour after she'd started, I heard Maëva in the bathroom throwing up. At one point, Laureva didn't make it to the bathroom and poured a cascade of vomit down on the floor from her bed. After cleaning it up, I got them both big bowls to have next to their beds. The alternating bouts of vomiting continued through the night, with me "sleeping" on the floor in Laureva's room for short periods in between bouts of holding back hair, patting backs and emptying out sick bowls. Finally about 5:30, I didn't think I could take anymore getting up and down from the floor in an exhausted state. I suggested we go upstairs and put on a Christmas movie as I thought I'd be slightly more comfortable on the couch. I was. The sickness continued as we watched a movie, then switched to reruns of The Big Bang Theory.

Now it's 11am on Christmas morning. The girls are still both nauseous, but the vomiting seems to be slowing down. We haven't opened any presents, though I did bake my cinnamon rolls - very light and fluffy again this year thanks to Roy's sourdough recipe. Sylvain and I each ate some. The girls are very disappointed to be sick for Christmas. I don't think they'll be able to make Christmas lunch at Marie-Elisabeth's with Ghalem and Marie-Paule . . .

Norovirus? So sorry it found the girls today. I hope Santa brings everyone rest for Christmas.

Update: The girls stopped vomiting about midday, but then got feverish. They stayed home watching a BBT marathon all day. By the evening, they were much better, enough to open their presents from Santa before heading to bed a little earlier than usual. I fell alseep on the sofa as soon as Sylvain put the San Antonio vs Thunder game on the TV. Everyone had a good night's sleep. Seems to have been a quick bout of gastroenteritis. We have no idea where it might have come from.
