It was wonderful to catch up with the blog tonight. Yesterday was the last of the weekly events connected with the exhibition about artist collaborations that Stretcher was in. I interviewed an artist and engineer who met when they were both in residence at the Xerox Parc research center and are now working (with others, too) on a series of events and Web site about the election: www.america-the-globe.net
You might find the Web site interesting - among the things I enjoyed were links to the op-ed pages of newspapers including international ones like Vietnam News along with the New York Times. They also covered the Democratic and Republican conventions and got some cool video--it's not your standard news video, it's interesting in a different way.

In case you are intrigued, here's the description of their project -- when they first started it there was not much of a Web and they figured maybe 300 people tops even had the capability to see the site. They've been doing it every election since.

"For the fifth consecutive presidential campaign season, the new media artist team of Margaret Crane|Jon Winet is producing a multi-media work focusing on democratic practice in America. During this election year, the interdisciplinary 2004 America & The Globe project explores the democratic process and the spectacle of presidential campaigns in the United States. Viewing the campaign process as an exercise in political theater, Crane|Winet's approach results in a complex and technologically layered presentation that includes public forums and discussions, written publications and web actions, exhibitions, film and video. DiverseWorks is working in collaboration with Aurora Picture Show, Lawndale Art Center, Museum of Fine Arts Houston and Voices Breaking Boundaries on a joint project entitled The Voting Machine, which consists of a series of election-related programs hosted by each organization in the months leading up to the November election."

Otherwise, I was just waking up in the morning and heading out into the world with this sense of "I can't POSSIBLY do everything I MUST do today"...with teaching, this show, and other freelance work. But I survived and will now endeavor to be a more faithful blogger.
