Don't like to work?

... move to France! Where even when you want to work, they won't let you. Students at the university are back on strike, barricading the university like they did a year and a half ago. There's a general strike planned for the 20th, so the current situation could potentially last until at least then. So it's back to sitting at home twiddling my thumbs.

On another note, we got our bar installed today (after a year and a half wait!) so come by and have a drink any time!

Je sais que c'est une question stupide (because this is France we're talking about), mais pourquoi sont les étudiants en grève?

Oh, does there have to be a reason? Just kidding. Actually, there are reasons. I haven't been following things that closely, but I believe, among other things, they are protesting against planned government reforms that would bring private financing into the public university system. They are worried about the autonomy of future researchers and the fate of research departments with little or no commercial potential. I think there may be some other points as well. If I figure out what they are, I'll let you know. For right now the university is closed until further notice, probably at least until the national strike planned for the 20th. Lots of people are unhappy with President Sarkozy!
