At least the balls still bounced

Andrew stayed the night with Janice and Randy last night, so Jenn and I took the opportunity to hit the tennis court ... or, go to the tennis court and hit some tennis balls.

It was quite the experience, so a number of reasons. First, it was a new set of courts. I decided to see if we could get on the courts at Norman North HS. We were able to ... I think they are locked a lot of the time. The courts we usually go to aren't as convenient as they used to be because of roadwork on Rock Creek between Porter and 12th.

And, it's been a while since we've played tennis. I'm not sure of the exact date of the last match, but it's probably close to two years ago. So, needless to say, we were both a little rusty, although the results were not unlike previous ones.

Finally, it was windy. I don't remember playing on a day with such steady winds. The courts at NNHS are oriented north-south, and the wind was blowing straight out of the south. I started playing into the wind and I don't think Jenn realized how windy it was until we traded sides halfway through. One of her shots into the wind was fairly high and got knocked down by the wind, so it landed just short of the net ... then started bouncing back towards her - wind aided, not spin controlled.

We lasted about an hour and got two sets in. It was pretty hot, despite being 9:30 AM when we started. We'll probably continue to try to play when we get the chance ... it's just hard to get the chance with all the things that need to get done, especially when Andrew isn't around. Maybe in the not too distant future, Andrew will enjoy coming with us, although it's too hot this time of year.
