The eventful weekend continued Sunday. Jeremy and I went to Rich's at 8 to help with the fencing project. The first item on the agenda was digging the post holes. Rich rented a gas-powered auger Friday night so he'd have it for the entire weekend. But, the HS kids (from Rich's son's youth group) who were attempting to run it on Saturday were surprisingly ineffective. I told Rich we'd be willing to work until noon, thinking it would take about 4 hours to get the post holes dug.
It didn't take that long. We were done with all of them in about half that time, which left a couple more hours to start cementing the posts in the ground. We got more than half of them in, but had to stop because we needed longer poles at the corner of the yard because the ground is lower in that area and Rich wants the fence panels to be flat across the top - he's going to use something to fill the gap between the bottom of the fence and the ground.
Rich gave us lunch money to get What-a-burger. I realized at lunch that I'd forgot my gloves, and when I returned to Rich's, he and Susan's dad were putting up the first fence panel. There's still a fair amount of work to be done, but we got most of the heavy lifting out of the way.
After a couple hours at home, we headed back up to Moore to Jeremy and Tessa's for a holiday weekend party. We had Chicago dogs - I didn't ... I didn't want all that crap, although those hooligans didn't have any ketchup, so I had to top my hot dogs with BBQ sauce. For dessert, we had key lime pie that Karl made and cupcakes that the Edgars' neighbors Mike and Jennifer brought over.
After eating, we went outside to play bean bags and croquet. It was my first experience with both those games. I'm not great at either, but I'm not bad either. Croquet was complicated by the highly variable terrain in the backyard. There are both macro and micro features in the ground surface, plus varying grass lengths. And, by the end of the game, it was dark and you could barely see the balls.
The event was capped off around the fire pit roasting marshmallows for S'mores watching the storms start to roll in from the N and NW.
