Christmas Memories

For me, this is a hodge-podge of things. I remember a scavenger hunt of sorts, which ended with a trip to the pound and bringing home a cute little puppy. And, stockings with Haagen Daas pints, skittles and jelly bellys. Ahhh yes, and watching the Blue-Gray game from Mobile, AL while waiting for other people to get up - notice I didn't use the word "patiently" in that sentence.

I also remember thinking that I ALWAYS picked the "wrong" thing to open when we got to open one thing Christmas Eve. I think Roy was better at picking than I was. I also remember getting a radio control car one year, only to have it quit working not long after. I remember it got left in a cold car, but I have a hard time believing that was the culprit, although I think that's what I thought at the time.

And, at the time, I never knew why we would go to g'ma and g'pa's after church on Christmas Eve ... but I know now. I'm also wondering when Rachel, Andrew, BT3, BT4, etc. will be old enough to be given a can/jar/bottle of coins to count out and divide evenly amongst themselves.

Ooh, Uncle Kenny's coin gifts. That's a good one.

I don't remember Häagen Dazs in my stocking, though.

Tanya ... help me out on this one? I remember ice cream as a stocking stuffer, Roy doesn't. I specifically remember having to put mine in the freezer because I didn't want to eat the whole pint for breakfast. I think there may have been some Ben & Jerry's mixed in, too ... I remember someone (not me) getting Cherry Garcia ... I think.

I'm not saying I disbelieve you. I just don't remember it yet.

No, you're saying I misremembered!

Sorry, I don't remember any ice cream. But I don't remember any coin counting either.

Tanya, you don't remember Uncle Kenny giving you all the change he had saved in a big jar on Grandma's kitchen counter? He did that at least 2 or 3 years or more. It had moved to the back of my mind, but I think I mentioned it to Mike once because he has two huge crayon banks that I thought he could do a similar thing for his grandsons.

I don't remember the ice cream, but I was probably the one who did it. And the Cherry Garcia was probably for me! Sounds like a good stocking stuffer to me. We might have to do that one again sometime.

Okay ... I feel better about things this morning. Why? Because I actually remember things from my childhood! Ha ha ... just kidding ... I'm sure other people have different memories that I don't recall.
