Room on the Broom

Room on the Broom, by Julia Donaldson, may be my favorite children's book. I particularly like the poetry: almost none of the rhymes are awkward, and it has some interesting use of parenthesis. Our copy is still packed away since our move, but we found a board-book version in a Little Free Library nearby, and adopted it a couple months ago. It's a frequent choice for reading time.

This week, Nicole discovered that an animated version had become available on Netflix. It's just a half-hour show, and it is a verbatim dramatization of the book: there's no added dialog, and a narrator reads the non-dialog word-for-word, interspersed with some longer animation sequences. It has been playing practically non-stop here ever since.

Lydia has especially taken to the story, and has been working on reading the book. It seems destined to be her Go, Dog. Go! She has significant portions memorized, and she's working on deciphering the words a little at a time. I suspect it won't be long before she can pretty much manage the entirety.
