Fourteenth Article

I have an article in this volume that just came out. My copies arrived in the mail on Saturday. Exciting. Even more exciting is the fact that I'm actually getting paid for this article. I don't know how much yet. The contract outlined a formula based on volume length and number printed. But still, however much it is will be more than I've ever received before for a scholarly article.
If you haven't read Cather's My Antonia, I recommend it just for family historical background reasons. It's about southewest Nebraska homesteading in the late 19th century and we have ancestors that were doing that, too, in about the same area at about the same time! I quite enjoyed reading the book. I can't say I much enjoyed writing about it, though. However, my friend who edited this volume thought my analysis was spot on (I wrote about retrospective gazes in this novel and an earlier Cather short story) and thinks I should write more on Cather. Um, no thanks. But I am glad to have done this one. It will probably be more widely read than much of my other work as it's in a collection designed for students preparing for a French university teacher's exam.
