We spent Sunday on Vashon Island with Paola, Abhinav, and Flavia. We met them on the 10:10 ferry, had lunch at Snapdragon, a bakery cafe, and then visited three beaches after a brief stop to look at a bicycle in a (spruce?) tree.
We saw a lot of driftwood, some wildlife, a lighthouse, and relatively few other people, especially at the last beach, which required fifteen minutes of uphill walking to return from.
Back from the beach we stopped for ice cream, then decided to eat dinner on the island, rather than sit and wait forty-five minutes for the next ferry.
Then we tried to find a restaurant, but everything was closed, too busy, or inappropriate for children. We ended up back at Snapdragon. Thankfully, they had a different menu for dinner, and the food was well received.
We rushed to get to the 7:30 ferry, but were third next in line when it departed. We thought we'd have to wait until 8:45, but another one came along and whisked us away by 8:06. We made it home to Raye St just after 8:45. At the time we thought perhaps they were running an extra ferry instead of docking it for the night. It didn't occur to me then that they were just running late.

Looks like fun. What kind of wildlife?
The wildlife started with an as-yet unidentified many-legged arthropod, about the size of a large cockroach. There were some small crabs. We saw lots of spouts from clams.
At the second beach we saw lizards on the driftwood, porpoises at a distance, and a seal just a few meters off shore. An osprey flew overhead carrying something.
At the last beach there was a heron, and more of the same small critters.
We saw one deer while driving. I may have forgotten some things.
Did you hear any crabs on the drive?
Drives were short. I don't remember much complaining.
Love the kids + driftwood construction! Sounds like a wonderful day.
