I recently had to change dentists after mine retired. I had been to see the new one (Dr. Le Corre) recommended by the old one (Dr. Richemont) once for a checkup in early February. When I broke my tooth on Monday, the assistant gave me an appointment for Friday at 12:30. When I arrived, it turned out the appointment was with the new dentist's partner, a cheerful energetic young woman in pink scrubs named Lia Canella. I had been expecting to have my tooth filed down a little and then be given an appointment to come back later. However, Dr. Canella told me that she needed to take the nerve out of my tooth, replace it with something synthetic and then build me back a temporary tooth to hold me over until I could get a crown put on. She said she could do all that on the spot if I had 45 minutes to spare. Pleasantly surprised, I agreed. As I lay there on the dental chair with my mouth uncomfortably open for the next forty-five minutes, I was constantly amazed at the quality of Dr. Canella's care. She was attentive and competent. She coached me to breathe as she gave me anaesthetic shots which I barely felt. She was quick and efficient in her work, but always took time to ask how I was doing and whether I was in any pain. I felt like I was in very good hands and just lay there marveling at how wonderful this dentist was while at the same time wondering how much it was going to cost for 2 x-rays, de-nerving and re-nerving, scraping away cavity and rebuilding a temporary tooth . . . When she gave me the bill, I was once again pleasantly surprised. Less than 32 euros! Approximately the same cost as a teeth cleaning over here. Wow. The estimate for the crown is much higher, of course. Now waiting to hear how much my insurance will agree to cover. I feel like I've found the best dentist in the world and am looking forward to taking the girls to see her for their next checkups. They're sure to like her, too!
