Out from under a paper pile

We arrived back in Baltimore from Hawaii on Monday afternoon, but I have spent nearly the entire intervening time working on papers. Conveniently, the camera-ready copy of my paper to be published for the conference in New York in June was due Monday night, and the draft submission for the Sydney conference Tuesday night. My advisor arranged for an extension of the first deadline so that we could work toward the second one, which indeed we did. Long hours and no post-vacation relaxing later, we submitted that at 2am Wednesday (it was supposed to be due at midnight at the end of Tuesday, but the organizers inadvertently specified EST instead of EDT, so we got an extra hour, and then had to ask for a grace period to fix a few things). Yesterday I was expecting to finish things up relatively early, but spent hours trying to reduce a bloated paper back to eight pages. Then, some technical difficulties stifled communication between me and my advisor, so I got up early and finished things up this morning.

And the moral of the story is . . . I haven't had time to post pictures of Hawaii. I'll do that later today, when I get home to where they are. And maybe I'll tell you more about the trip, too. Things that the pictures are hiding, in particular. For now, you can entertain yourself by finding and reading my paper, which is on my web page. I pay cash for typos.
