Rearranging

A while back, I decided it was time to change things around a little bit. The Nemo room seemed a bit cramped with all the workout stuff in it. The office and dining room seemed under-utilized. While mom was down, on one of our numerous trips to home depot, we got some glides to slip under the corners of furniture to reduce the friction coefficient. You see, the normal force (essentially the weight of the item), multiplied by the friction coefficient is the force you must apply to move something. So, using something to decrease that multiplier, say from 0.3 to 0.1 (just throwing numbers out), dramatically decreases the effort necessary to move desks, hutches and other such items.

At first, we thought we'd move the office to the Nemo room and make it an office/guest room. The weight equipment would replace it in the bigger, higher-ceilinged, fan-equiped, lighter room in the SE corner of the house. However, on the drive down to Texas to send mom back to AK, she suggested putting the office stuff in the formal dining room. Hmmm. Interesting idea. The only main items in the dining room had been a bookcase, mail desk, chest freezer and hutch/cabinet thing. I wasn't sure, without measuring (or at least looking at the pieces), if it would work. It did.

So, the new arrangement is: workout equipment in the office. The dining room has the cabinet where the mini-fridge was, the desk where the cabinet was, the file cabinet where the old desk (that Tanya wants us to get rid of) was, and a bookcase in the same location. So, a bookcase is going to move to the Nemo room. Perhaps, the chest freezer will reside in there too. It will return to its status as an inhabitable room as well, as long as you aren't afraid of fish.

At some point, pictures will be posted. However, some of this is still theoretical and needs to be implemented. Shouldn't be too bad.

On a disgusting note: when we moved the desk, we found a rodent. No, the rodent was not alive. We have not seen any rodents around, other than this one. I think it was probably dead when we moved in. It was so old that it was rigid. I picked it up by the tail with tongs and it did not change shape. It was like picking up a pencil or anything else that doesn't change shape much when you pick it up ... nothing like a drunk person or a Justice.

Another casualty of the rearrange is the painting Meredith gave us. It was located above the chest freezer. It could have stayed in place, but it would have been mostly concealed behind the cabinet. So, it's on the move. Where to? That decision has yet to be made. MT - would it be adversely effected if it were placed on a wall in the kitchen?
