The Beggar's Throne by David Falconieri

This is not my typical fare, but I liked it enough to keep reading. It's a historical novel of the War of the Roses—the struggle in the fifteenth century between the houses of York and Lancaster for the English throne.

As is typical of historical fiction, I suppose, it mixes major historical figures—the nobility involved in the power struggle—with historically insignificant fictional characters living out regular lives. In this case, the latter are a miller's family who become intimately involved in the details of the power struggle.

There's lots of death and mayhem along the way, but it has a happy ending. That is, unless you were rooting for the Lancastrians.
