Climbing stairs

Rachel is still not walking without support, but she has started climbing stairs. It frightens us, but it might just be her favorite thing to do these days. She just managed to climb all the way from the second floor to the third (under supervision, of course).

She seems to have figured this out while we were in France. She never climbed Tatie Tanya's stairs, but she did start crawling onto tables from chairs/benches, and she also managed to nagivate the split-level living/dining room at Gu's house.

Now, whenever we're down on the first floor, she takes off on the spur of the moment and heads for the stairs. We don't have a gate in place there yet. This lovely compromise between encouraging development and averting serious injury must be one of the great joys of parenting.

You could get her a helmet for her climbing activities.

She takes after her daddy ... who wanted to climb the stairs from Grandpa and Grandma Tromble's basement (where we spent a lot of time because it was cool) in Clay Center (I think). So Grandpa spent a lot of time on hands and knees following Roy up the stairs ... so as not to stunt his development.

A visit to France is always an eye-opening experience in one way or another and should therefore be attempted as often as possible!
