The Pink Elephant Café

Mom, Evan and I went to The Pink Elephant Café in downtown Norman for lunch on Monday. Upon walking in the door, Evan immediately commented that it looked like a "Juneau" place. He didn't mean any place in particular, the atmosphere of the place just seemed Juneau-ish to him. Once we got seated and received our menus, we learned that the place describes itself as "Bohemian". There were mismatched bright colored things everywhere. Paintings and pictures on the walls and the tables were bright colored image collages covered over with transparent plastic tablecloths. I was wearing a two-toned gray hat that I recently received as a gift in France and got compliments on its cuteness from both the hostess and our waitress. They expressed disappointment upon learning they would have to go to France to acquire one. The menu is simple, a small selection of soups, salads and sandwiches, but the fare was good. Mom and I both had a sort of combo plate with a cup of soup, a half sandwich and the daily dessert. We both chose the tomato basil soup which was quite good. Even with my partially impaired taste buds (I was suffering from a bad head cold/sinus infection/sore throat at the time) I enjoyed it. It was a bit spicy (although Mom didn't think so and she doesn't like spicy, so maybe it felt spicier because my throat was so raw ...). I had a vegetarian sandwich on wheat bread and the dessert was a butter cake with red berries on top and whipped cream. Mom and I each shared half our dessert with Evan who had just ordered a full sandwhich. His sandwich came with almost a whole plateful of sun chips. I believe the food was enjoyed by all, though Evan probably won't go back there of his own accord due to the fact that he can make himself a plain sandwich and a plate of sun chips just as easily as order one up. But I would definitely return. The berrylicious salad sounded divine!
