R.I.P Samantha

I'm very sad to let you know that Samantha died today about 12:30 p.m. She'd been gradually slowing down for awhile, but nothing that seemed critical. Yesterday, after a couple of days where she seemed listless, I took her to the vet. X-rays showed fluid in her lungs and in the lining to the lungs, leading to a diagnosis of congestive heart failure. The vet gave Samantha some medicine and I took her home but by this morning it was obvious her lungs were not clearing and she was not comfortable. I called the vet who was able to come to the house on her lunch hour and help Samantha pass peacefully. Tom & I were with her. Samantha was clearly ready to go and I'm glad she didn't suffer longer.

Samantha was the sweetest, smartest, best snuggle cat ever and I miss her greatly. The house seems empty and not a home without her.

Another casualty of the day was the zebra snuggie Dad gave me for Christmas. Samantha had adopted it as hers and in the course of events peed on it. Prior experience with trying to remove cat pee smell convinced me it was best to just let it go to dumpster heaven. The leopard will have to find new prey.

Tom had previously requested a period of no cats; time will tell if he does better with his request than Anwyl did with a similar request.

Oh, Kristen. This is a beautiful picture of Samantha, who was beautiful inside and out. I am grateful to have been her aunt. Our hearts are with you.

Kristen, I just realized that Miss Kitti died three years ago to the day, on March 5, 2007. I am so sad for you, I know how much Samantha meant to you.
