Music Together

Monday was Rachel's and my last Music Together class. It was a ten-week session with a forty-five minute class every Monday evening. Nicole went with her to the very first class, but it has been my job ever since. Parents and kids sit in a circle on the floor and sing along with the teacher, occasionally standing up to dance, or grabbing a percussion instrument.

It took Rachel several weeks to warm up to the music and start to participate, but she eventually got the hang of it. Now she breaks into a Music Together song every fifteen minutes. One of her current favorites is "Shake Those 'Simmons Down", which she calls "Shake Those Cinnamons Down". (I tried showing her a picture of a persimmon the other day, but I don't think she gets it yet.) She also likes to sing the Hello Song to anyone and anything in her vicinity. Yesterday morning she asked me to sing hello to all the food at breakfast.

I'm not sure how Rachel will feel come Monday, when she doesn't get to go to music class for the first time in ten weeks, but the good news is that there's another session starting the first week of January. We're already signed up.

Can we get a video?

Seconding the video request...and how very, very, very cool for her to get to build music into her consciousness now. I have been glad so many times that I got music training at home and in choir, although there were parts of it I didn't like much at the time. But when I encounter people who have never made music, it seems like they're missing so much.

Thanks for the 'simmons video! Extra extremely extraordinarily cute.
