4th of July BBQ

Thanks for calling yesterday, Tromble reunion-goers. Sorry the phone connection situation was so bad, but it was nice to hear your voices even for just a few seconds. As you know, partially to stave off melancholy at not being with you, I had organized a Fourth of July meal for some of our friends. Unfortunately, the weather did not really cooperate. Sunday it was sunny with temps in the high 80s. Today, the same. Yesterday, however, it was gray and stormy. We had planned for everyone to go in the pool in the afternoon. So much for that. We had planned to eat outside on the patio. So much for that. It started raining on us during the apéritif. I still barbecued the burgers outside, though. And they were a big hit. I didn't taste one, but they were reportedly delicious! Of course, my audience was composed primarily of people whose burger reference is McDonalds. An American group might be more discerning. Still, I am proud of my first attempt and was told I should open up a burger stand. I figure I can maybe trade burgers for diaper changes! They also loved my potato salad, especially the extra sauce that they ended up using on their burgers. It was made from apple cider vinegar, eggs, butter, cream, ground mustard, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and lemon juice.
