Rachel's report card

A couple weeks ago, coincidentally the same day Evan wrote Andrew Report, I had a parent-teacher conference at La Escuelita. Rachel got a pretty good report. Her teachers said she's the only one who really speaks Spanish at school. The other kids will use Spanish words here and there, but Rachel actually forms complete sentences. And they emphasized that she's not translating word for word, but constructing the sentences in Spanish word order. They also said she shows a lot of empathy towards the other kids, and sometimes translates for them. They said Rachel shows them their insistence on Spanish immersion is actually paying off.

We're very happy with this. There are presumably a lot of social benefits of attending preschool, but learning Spanish was the primary reason we enrolled Rachel two years ago. We've signed her up for one more year. In the very likely event that we're still in Pittsburgh next year, she'll be attending La Escuelita's brand new kindergarten. Lydia will be joining her for preschool part time.
