Saturday Morning Stroll

I've been giving consideration to running the OKC Marathon this year. This week, I realized that if I'm going to do it, I need to start training for it. And, if I'm going to start training for it, I need to see if I can just jump into a program.

So, I pulled up a program, counted back from the marathon, and found that I needed to run a half this weekend. Why not?

I set out a bit after 8, with a goal to run 9-minute miles. That would get me done in just under 2 hours. Well, a funny thing happened. I couldn't run that slow. I finished the first 10 miles in less than 1:25 (sub 8:30 pace). Mile 11 was my slow mile, at 9:05, but it was my uphill mile.

I feel pretty good (having just run 13 miles), both physically and mentally. I guess I can do this.

I ran 13.1 last summer one Saturday. This afternoon, I checked my time on that one. It was 2:06. I'll admit I added a tough feature near the end of that run, but that only added a couple minutes to my time.

Pretty crazy I'm a minute per mile faster.

If you can run the second 13.1 in 30 minutes, you'll win most marathons you enter!

Thanks, dad. If I could run 13.1 miles in 30 minutes, I'd be the fastest human.
