Monday, July 29. Girls slept pretty well, but up to use bathroom at 5:40 am. It does not feel like much progress is being made in the sleep adjustment process ...
Headed out about 9:30 to take the Metro to the Natural History Museum. Doe sighting by Sylvain on the drive. She was just strolling down the middle of a neighborhood road, not far from Dad's. We all got to see her. Girls really enjoyed swiping their Metro cards to get through the gates in and out. As we were heading around back of the museum to the Mall entrance for much shorter lines, we walked through the polinator garden. A botanist called us over to look at something. She showed us two Monarch butterfly caterpillars on two small milkweed plants. There was even caterpillar poop on some of the leaves. She was very excited and we were lucky to happen upon her. Today's museum favorites: gems & minerals (Maëva), butterfly pavillion (Tanya), and in the Fossil Hall, an interactive evolution/tree of life screen (Sylvain) and an interactive screen exhibit about things ordinary people can do to help the planet (Laureva). We spent about two hours in all then headed to lunch at Oyamel on F Street, a cucina mexicana we had seen on the way to the museum. It was upscale Mexican cuisine and quite tasty. Chips and spicy smoked chipotle salsa. Cheese quesadilla for Maëva. Ham and cheese quesadilla for Laureva with a ball of mashed black beans. Spicy veggie quesadilla for me. Rich and delicious with a smoky cheese. Beef enchiladas for Sylvain and Dad.
Back home about 3:20 for some vanilla ice cream before an hour of rest time. After rest, the girls went outside in the driveway to do the gem and rock dig they picked out at the museum gift shop. They excavated the 11 gems in about 45 minutes of scraping, pounding, prying and getting sand all over the driveway. I sipped a glass of Dad's spice bush tea as I supervised. Quite tasty.
Dad made a delicious dinner of guacamole, tomato/mozzarella/basil with balsamic vinegar, and red pepper/olive/goat cheese/basil pizza with sourdough crust.

I'm tired. Getting tireder by the day, it seems. Must be having TOO much fun!

Sounds like the museum has new exhibits since I was there. Thanks for the report.
Yes, the Fossil Hall is nice. There's also a new Ocean Hall.
