This morning, I braved the cold to volunteer at the hazardous waste event in Norman. There were a few of us from the office. Here's a rundown of my activities from about 7 to 11:30 AM, when I met the other Trombles at Crooked Crust.
Drive to office. Get work boots. Drive to Lloyd Noble Center (OU basketball facility). Sign in at tent. Eat donut. Wait 30 minutes in the 35 degree weather. Safety meeting. In line to get gloves. Had to wait for all the paint people. Lame.
South to the electronics and tires place. Scheduled for electronics. Electronics not fun. I wanted to carry stuff. They wanted me to direct traffic (locally) and call people over. Hmm. Tires. Pick em up. Roll them from the back of the truck trailer to the front. Stack em up. Way more fun. Went back and forth between the two. Good time. Tire crew was me, a city employee who was on the softball team last year (Paul), and a kid from Norman North who gave me hope that maybe the next generation isn't all bad.
At 11:15, another kid came to work the afternoon shift. I had to go. Andrew had a soccer game.
It was fun. A little dirty (some of the tires were covered in dirt, mud, leaves, etc.). And, while it was a bit cold to start, it was great working weather. How cold was it? One of the tires we collected had ice on the inside. I don't think it was because they store the tires in a freezer.
