Guo Pei

The Legion of Honor, one of San Francisco's city museums, had an exhibition of the Chinese couturier Guo Pei this summer. The clothes were remarkable, which is not to say that I particularly liked them -- they had an extreme luxury vibe that seemed distasteful in the era of the gilt-obsessed former guy. But it has to be understood in the context of a designer who grew up in the Mao era, when departing from enforced sartorial conformity by wearing a purple handkerchief rather than a red one in the pocket of your Mao suit could get you in big trouble. The clothes are very imaginative and I can see why she and others would go for extravagant decoration. So, sharing a few pics for those who might enjoy them. Perhaps the one at the end would work for Maëva and Laureva??
