Saturday, December 2nd, we had a second Thanksgiving dinner. This time, we drove up to Aix to our friends Mary and Ben's apartment. They moved down here from Strasbourg at the end of the summer. Two of Ben's childhood friends from Strasbourg were visiting, so that made a party of eight.
I brought pecan pie. Mary made the rest: turkey loaf, cranberry sauce (with real cranberries she found at the Amsterdam airport, of all places), mashed sweet potatoes with marmelade and caramelized pecans, stuffing with celery and sage, green bean casserole with cream of mushroom sauce and crispy onions, gravy, regular mashed potatoes for the girls, dinner rolls and pumpkin pie. It was quite a delicious feast! Laureva even tried and liked the cranberry sauce. I made both girls try the stuffing, but neither liked it. Maëva ate only mashed potatoes and bread. Laureva did that as well, but added turkey and cranberry sauce.
It was delicious, and a treat for me to eat a Thanksgiving dinner I didn't mostly prepare myself. It's been awhile since that has happened. Mary gave me a plate of leftovers that I'm going to enjoy for lunch today.
