Monday, August 25th
Roy made purple yam and rice flour pancakes. I ate mine with ginger syrup. I might even like it better than maple syrup. I rode with Roy to drop Nicole off at the school district central offices for her day of math teacher training which started at 9am. On the way home, we stopped at the Post Office so I could mail Hayden's thank you bobbers package. Meanwhile, the girls did a trial packing run to make sure we still had enough room in our luggage.
As Roy and I drove, talk turned to understaffing and I learned the term Baumol's Cost Disease.
Back home, Roy and Laureva assisted me as I tried to straighten out the bumper and tail pipe of the rental car. We did manage to improve things down to a much smaller dent. Then I also did some packing. I think we'll be able to get home without adding on a third piece of checked luggage.
The girls and I went to the airport with Roy to pick up Rachel. She arrived home from Guatemala via Houston at 12:46. Just as we were greeting her at baggage claim, Sylvain called. He was now stuck in the upstairs bathroom! Roy sent as SOS on their family chat and Colin came to the rescue. Roy tightened all the screws when we got home.
After a late lunch of leftovers, Roy and Rachel left to pick up Nicole at 3. The rest of us got ready and met up with them at Seattle Pops about 3:30. For my third frozen treat, I had cinnamon ice cream with dark chocolate drizzle and toasted coconut. I had been thinking about chocolate dip and caramel drizzle, but I feared the caramel might be too sweet for me.
Nicole drove the five younger kids home, then met the rest of us at Fremont Brewing. I tried their Cloud Session and Lush IPAs. I liked both. Sylvain got a turquoise squid t-shirt. It's pretty, though he's disappointed it doesn't have their typical "Freemont, Earth" indication on it.
Nicole went back to pick up the kids and we all met for dinner at Maharaja Indian restaurant near Laurelhurst. Sylvain and I shared a spicy red shrimp curry and spicy naan. It was delicious, though it made our mouths burn. The girls dined on plain white rice and cheese naan. Talk turned to Pokémon. Nicole showed Sylvain how to make his buddy seem to appear next to him in the space and how to rub it under its chin.
Back home, we took another group photo.
To finish off the evening, some went to bed, others watched Jumanji, still others shared a bottle of red wine which had been brought from France for Roy due to its name: 4th November!

Thank you for the Alaska etc. trip log! I have enjoyed it greatly, even for the parts where I was there it was fun to get another view. Our own trip back was blessedly uneventful.
