Hmmm . . . where's the newspaper?

Nothing is hiding behind the newspaper, we don't get the newspaper . . . although occasionally, I'll grab a copy of the school paper and read it on campus.
What have I been reading lately? Well, Meredith got me MONEYBALL for Christmas (I picked it up just after New Year's when we met up in KS on the way back from CO). I made it to page 28, and it's actually a very interesting read. For whatever reason, my reading hasn't been consistent . . . although maybe I'll get working on it more this week, since it's Spring Break. Additionally, I've been reading some papers for school . . . one last week was on Wind Driven Mixing in Completely Mixed Lakes, or something like that . . . computer modelling of wind driven currents in lakes . . . the paper was interesting, the results were interesting, though not good (experimental vs. model). Patricia is going to run ADCIRC on Lake Thunderbird (a local reservoir that is pretty good size) and force it with different wind conditions (Casey and I think she should model a tornado going over the Lake), so that's why we read the paper. Plus, they incorporated both hydrostatic and hydrodynamic (non-hydrostatic) pressure distributions for different options in the model to see how the hydrostatic assumption (which simplifies the mathematics) decreases accuracy of the model.
On a related note, I'm going to be working this week to write some code to analyze the error between experimental and model results for my mixing in a box simulations.
Jenn is about to finish a book, she'll have to post about it.
On a different note, we had the research group over for dinner tonight. It was . . . interesting . . . that's probably the best way to describe it. It was Jenn, me, Casey, Dr. Kendra, Patricia and her husband Gumvee (he's Indian . . . not Native American, from India), and Dr. Kolar, Maria, John, Charlie, Sam and Katie . . . luckily, the dogs kept John and Charlie entertained in the yard for a good portion of the evening . . . although they were tired from hanging out in the yard with us yesterday, so they got tired (they aren't used to the energy level of young kids). We had fajita, margaritas, happy blue (margaritas with blue curacao added . . . mmmm), etc. Our research group is a little pathetic, Dr. Kolar and Maria are probably the biggest partiers . . . that's kind of sad, huh? We also realized that we don't really have the facilities to host a big party, but, that's ok . . . I don't see us hosting many.
Well, I'm going to try to make like a Jester and fall asleep.
