Exercise, Non-Routine Variety & Sunflower Trip

So I just caught up on the blog, things have been a little busy with the opening of the exhibition Stretcher is in July 15. Eventually we'll have video of the stuff we're doing posted on Stretcher and I'll post it to the blog. It's kind of hard to explain what a Web site is doing as part of an art exhibition but maybe it will make sense when the video is up. The Chronicle reviewed the show today but Stretcher wasn't mentioned so I won't bother linking it.

Anyway, on the exercise theme--Anwyl and I just completed a "yoga intensive" -- yoga 8-11 Monday-Friday last week. It was a great summer adventure. A teacher we both like has just opened her own studio, a beautiful sunlit space, so it was a nice way to support her and maybe make a leap in strength & flexibility. Going into it, I thought I'd probably be impatient & have to struggle with such a long class each day, but it really wasn't a problem. She paced it a little more slowly than a regular class--more talking--which was just fine by me. I actually did a headstand (against the wall) which I haven't done in years and also tried out a handstand with the help of a wall system of straps that was actually taking my weight. I'm a looooong way from an unsupported handstand (Evan would have to pick me up by my ankles and hold me in place), but it was fun to go upside down.

I made reservations today to go to Kansas August 11-20.

Dad, when are you going to be in Kansas?

I must admit, I have NEVER done a headstand or a handstand. The only reason to do such things is to work on shoulder strength, but since I have weights, I can use more traditional methods ... such as my workout for today, focusing on shoulders, traps and arms:
Military press, 3x5, 135, 3x10, 105 lbs
Dips, 3x12
Upright Row, 3x8, 105
Curls, 4x8, 95
Close grip bench, 3x12, 155
Shrugs, 4x8, 275
Skullcrushers, 3x8, 105
EZ curls, 4x8, bar+90
Incline skullcrushers, 3x8, bar+90
Reverse EZ curls, 4x8, bar+50

What are skullcrushers? They don't sound like much fun.

Oh, you haven't done them before? It's when you run headfirst into a wall at full speed ... it's great for building up your neck muscles! Actually, another name for them is lying french press, I believe ... do you know what that is? If not, I will explain with a series of pictures ... I need to take a bunch and post them anyway.

No, still don't get it. Need photos.

Ok, yet another reason to get the camera out ... if the first 8 aren't enough, maybe the 9th will be just enough to push me over the edge.
