New Year's Resolutions

None so far but perhaps I should resolve to post at least once a month.

I got back last night from a 2-day work trip to Anchorage. A city I've always thought of as ugly was beautifully bedecked in a thick layer of ice. The entire city was white. The trees especially beautiful but also unexpected things like bridges and antennas and other building outgrowths.

Tom starts work tomorrow, sort-of. For the next couple of weeks, including all day both weekends, he's attending the employee training for AWARE. The plan is for him to work for AWARE part-time facilitating a batterer's group--for men who've been court ordered to attend in lieu of jail after domestic violence convictions. The board needs to approve the position for the job to be a sure thing but the shelter's paying him to attend employee training beforehand, which we interpret as a positive sign.

Galen arrives Monday for an extended stay. 2 of the 3 dressers that went in for refinishing after moving damage are scheduled to arrive home tomorrow so he should have someplace to put his clothes. Replacement of a cracked tub is supposed to happen this weekend (well, these items were supposed to be done before now but you know how it goes) so he may even have a place to shower.

Oh, and no babies expected here but I enjoy the posts about those elsewhere. Sad to miss the chance to see Tanya in July, though she couldn't have a better reason.

I'm glad my visit has motivated completion of the projects -- good for something, I guess.

Shouldn't batterers be stopped? Why is Tom going to be facilitating them? I must be missing something.

I always suspected as much.
