Japanese Rose Garden

Sylvain often complains that I make stories longer than necessary by giving too much background and too many unecessary details. But sometimes a story needs development, and sometimes a good story is just a little long and involved. Here's one. I'll try to be as concise as possible. My estheticienne came over this morning to redo the gel on my toenails. The big toenail on my left foot can't have gel on it this summer. I stubbed my toe really hard back in April and since then it hasn't been growing and has been pushed down into my toe a little. It was never black and blue, but the cuticle area was swollen for a bit and it often ached this Spring. In June, I finally went to see a podiatrist about it. She told me that it was odd to see a toe like that after a stubbing, they were usually bruised. She said the swollen part was due to the cuticule coming detached from the nail and that I should touch it as little as possible except to hydrate regularly and that it would eventually get back to normal, although it could take up to a year. Whew. I was relieved that I wasn't going to lose my toe. Anyway, she said that I could have normal nail polish on it, but not gel. So now when I get my toes done, the estheticienne has to do gel on nine and regular nail polish on the other. This is an unusual combination and she'd forgotten about it. She arrived this morning without her regular nail polish for my damaged toe so she asked to use mine. When I went down to get my bag of nail supplies, I discovered four OPI nail polishes that Grandma Reva had given me. I remember a time (around the time of my wedding, I think) when a dusty rose color called Japanese Rose Garden was Grandma's signature shade. She had given me a bottle one visit because I admired it so much. Now I'm going to bring my bottle with me so I can paint my nails for her service. Anyone who wants to join in is welcome. And just think, if Emilie had remembered my toe problem and come this morning with her own polish, I probably wouldn't have remembered about the colors from Grandma. Thanks, Emilie.

Can I wear sandals to the service if I paint my nails?

I think Sylvain's complaints are unfounded. I enjoy your stories a lot. Many times, without the details, the point would be lost...especially for those of us that are not used to the French culture and language.
