Memphis Coffee

Sylvain was away this weekend in Barcelona, celebrating the tenth anniversary of his bachelor party. So Maëva and I has a fun-filled mother/daughter Saturday. We went to the square in Lascours for biking and scootering, then to lunch at a diner in Aubagne. After a short nap, we met a friend in Aubagne for tea, ice cream and bubble blowing. Then it was off to Sophie and Jimmy's for dinner. The restaurant we went to is called Memphis Coffee, which I imagine should really be Memphis Coffee Shop. I think it's a chain of French American-style diners. The inside is decorated in blue and red classic diner style with American pseudo-50s memorabilia all over the walls. There was a large statue of Elvis playing the guitar just when you came in the door. This is a new place that has opened near Auchan in the past year or so. I had heard that the food and experience were decent and decided to go there with Maëva because I was pretty sure they would have French fries and thought it would be relatively kid friendly. Turns out it was incredibly kid friendly. Our young waiter was friendly, relaxed and personable. He even made a valiant attempt at speaking English. There were plenty of booster seats. The kids' meal was served in a car-shaped box:

The kids' ice cream was served in a little plastic monster figure that you could clean out and use as a toy afterwards. Maëva didn't think hers was pretty, though, and wanted to leave it at the restaurant. They brought candy with the check and a bottle of Memphis Coffee bubbles for Maëva. On our way out, we heard music being played outside for customers on the patio. Maëva wanted to dance "with both hands" which means the two of us holding hands and dancing around in a circle. So we danced for a few minutes in the parking lot. Maëva was thrilled to be all dressed up in her sparkly pink top at a restaurant where she could squeeze her own ketchup. I'm sure we'll go back again next time Sylvain's out of town.

Glad to hear the experience didn't have you singing the blues.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the little coloring book and box of colored pencils.
