Lascours Lockdown, Day 239

Sunday, November 8th. L2D10.

This morning, while Maëva worked on her homework, I baked bread and Laureva helped me make another batch of no-fail pie crusts for quiches. Then we mixed up the dough for Maëva's Indian stuffed naan rolls for sharing with her classmates. The girls also hounded me into getting on the computer and ordering their Christmas presents for each other, then they each got out their cash to reimburse me. One more Christmas thing done well in advance this year!

This afternoon, after reading time, the girls stuffed the naan rolls with a mixture of tomato, mozarella, onion and basil; baked them; and then glazed them with melted butter. (See the photo in the Tromble Bake-In album.) Our technique still needs work. They all split open to some degree. But I guess they'll still taste fine. The recipe made only about half what she needed. Had we known, we could have doubled it. (When we figured that out, it was too late to make a complementary batch as the dough has to rise for four hours before being formed into balls and stuffed.) Once they were completely cool, we cut them in half and individually packaged them for distribution. The main idea is just for everyone to get a taste, anyway. Unfortunately, there aren't enough for us to taste them ourselves, to Laureva's chagrin.

Late afternoon, Neelane called for one last practice round before tomorrow morning's presentation. Then Laureva and Maëva hopped in the bath with Laureva's black cat Halloween bath bomb before hangout time. Mom informed us it was National Tongue Twister Day. Just our luck, we'd been doing some earlier in the day so we got our book out and I read some of the harder ones, including one about a bitter biting bittern . . . The girls get quite a kick out of them.

When I went out to drop off garbage and recycling this afternoon, I heard on the radio that the Minister of Health is expecting to start seeing the effects of the lockdown soon. It still seems a bit early to me, but I certainly hope he's correct. The seven-day moving average for France is much higher than it's ever been at 54,000+. Maëva confirmed today that her classmate Alexandre was indeed taken out of school Friday because his dad had tested positive for Covid.
