As Sylvain and I are both on winter vacation this week, we decided to take the opportunity to go out to dinner. Tuesday evening, we tried this new-to-us restaurant, Le Poivre d'Ane, in Aix-en-Provence that was recommended by my friend Mary B. "Le Poivre d'Ane" is the French rendering of the Provençal "Pebre d'Ail" which is a local edible aromatic herb in the oregano family, if I'm not mistaken. We usually prefer to have fancy meals at noon, but this place is only open in the evenings. The restaurant is small and a bit cramped which made it more of a bistrot atmosphere with a noisy dining experience. But the food, classic French gastronomie with a lot of original twists, was great (beautiful and delicious), the staff was warm and welcoming, and the restaurant is decorated in just my color! Plus, we were able to have one of my favorite regional red wines: Château Grand Seuil 2007. We will definitely be recommending it and returning to taste some of the other items on the menu.
My dinner:
- Daily special: Tartare de thon aux pommes vertes (the green apple slightly overpowered the tuna and I would have preferred less of them)
- Noix de st-jacques au beurre de soja, poutargue et jus aux fruits de la passion
- Cheese-cake au café, chantilly Baileys
Sylvain's dinner:
- Tartare de filet mignon de porc noir ibérique et pata negra (He said this was very tasty.)
- Same scallops dish as me. We both loved it.
- Assortiment de fromages
Next time you come to visit, let's go!

It's a date! So glad it was delicious...and pretty close by, too, it sounds like. Excellent qualities in a restaurant.
