Maëva has a strange phobia. Applause. Whenever people around her start clapping, whether it be just a few or a large group, she bursts into inconsolable wailing. This has been going on for some time. I'm not sure why/how it started or why it continues. Another incident occured yesterday. Sylvain and I were at the Cercle for the annual Bouillaibaisse banquet. Marie-Elisabeth was watching Maëva and they stopped by in the late afternoon after Maëva's snack. Timing was perfect as it was dessert time at the Cercle so Maëva got to taste some of the strawberry meringue cake. However, while she was sitting on my lap, the President of the Cercle got up to give a little speech to thank the chefs after which everyone applauded. Maëva burst into tears. Unfortunately, her crying doesn't stop along with the applause. It takes quite awhile to calm her down. Fingers crossed for this being a relatively short-lived phase.

When Andrew was little, he would clap for himself after going down the slide. It was really cute.
