One of our many Idaho activities was cutting out snowflakes from discarded magazine pages and other scrap paper. Everyone participated, except Colin. It is tricky to fold paper into thirds, which is necessary to get realistic six-fold radial symmetry, but it can be done approximately, with care, and the results are quite satisfying.

Grandma Tromble used to cut out beautiful paper snowflakes.
And strings of little girls or boys.
And hearts.
