DC OK Adventure: Day 20

Sunday, July 17. Up early. 7am departure for Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Arrived at Jed Johnson lake trailhead at 8:30. Half mile hike up to the tower, or castle, depending on your age. The girls both did great. Maëva took the lead with Mom. Laureva and I walked more slowly behind. She did a good job on the rocky parts. I carried her about half way. Maëva peeped inside the boarded up tower and noticed a lot of bottles and cans so she said it was a garbage castle. On the way down, I spotted a snake across the path. It had orange stripes. Mom took a picture. Later, at the visitor center, we would learn it was a copperhead. Good thing we turned around and took the other path! We also saw a bison grazing close to the road, a herd of longhorn close up, and the girls had an up close look at a curious prairie dog. The girls each chose pink t-shirts at the visitor center, then it was time to head back. Maëva requested McDonald's, so we stopped in Chickasha. She made a friend named Bodie in the play area. He had a hard time with her name and kept asking "What sounds like your name?" Back at Mom's, the girls looked at fabric for dresses and brushed the dogs while I went out to Michael's and Target in search of favors for Maëva's upcoming birthday party. Webcam with Sylvain. Cuddles with Grandma. 5:30 trip to the pool. A little girl named Ruby showed up with My Little Pony toys and shared them with Laureva and Maëva. Back home for more leftovers for the adults (we apparently vastly overestimated quantities for Thursday dinner!); hot dogs, rice and green beans for the girls. Another dog incident over dessert when Lady stole Laureva's ice cream. Laureva adopted a turquoise hat previously owned by Lucas and wore it around the house before bed.

The dogs will be disappointed when the girls are gone. No more stealing candy from (little girls).
